TARIS Olive and Olive Oil Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union, the historical development of cooperatives in Turkey keep quite distinguished and honorable place, the first organization dates back to the ninety-three years ago today. In 1913, the first organization was made in order to save the products in the Aegean Region from the monopoly of foreigners and usurers and to directly evaluate them. Later, on October 9, 1935, Law No. 2834 on \"Agricultural Sales Cooperatives\" was enacted.

The most important problem faced by olive cultivation, which has an extremely important place in the agricultural production of the Aegean Region, was undoubtedly the problem of marketing the obtained product under satisfactory conditions to the producer, as in other agricultural sectors. However, until the 1940s, an organization that could evaluate the hard work of the producers could not be established. In addition, factors such as the loss of products due to the lack of facilities capable of processing the products obtained and the olive oil prices being left to the mercy of the merchants prevented olive cultivation from being an attractive field of activity for producers. The only way to overcome these problems was through organizing olive cultivation. For this purpose, at the 103rd Board of Directors Meeting of the Izmir Fig and Grape Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Association held on 27.10.1941, it was deemed appropriate to be considered as \"only by taking olive oil among the common secondary products for now, starting the organization of olive oil\" and at the same time purchasing from the market and exporting was deemed appropriate.

The purpose of olive oil cooperatives; By ending the instability in the prices of this product due to the Second World War, saving the olive oil producer from the exploitation of profiteers such as merchants, brokers and operators, the money going to the intermediaries as in other products remains with the producers and based on the paragraph (b) of the third article of the law numbered 2834, the products are used as raw materials when necessary. processing and selling.

As the oil market tended to rise in 1947, the government commissioned the cooperatives union to sell at cheaper prices from the state oil stocks.

Apart from these developments in the cooperation of olive oil in 1949, the most important innovation was that the İzmir Fig and Grape Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union was divided into separate unions over four main products. After this decision, each union took all its operations on its own account, starting from the 1949-1950 business year. In this business year, the Olive Oil Association gained 1,243,992 kilos, selling 1,078,694 kilos of product in return for 2,701,236 TL. Separation of troops was completed in the 1949-1950 business years. After this date, each of the fig, grape, cotton, olive and olive oil unions continued their activities as separate legal entities.
